There is no question that schools like Berkeley nationwide have much stronger endowments that ensure the viability and sustainability of those institutions long-term. If you would like to speak with someone at Berkeley about helping move the school into the next echelon of the greatest schools in the country by growing our endowment, please complete the corresponding form and we will reach out to you right away.
Above & Beyond, The Campaign for Berkeley Preparatory School, was the largest, most ambitious fund-raising campaign since the school's founding in 1960.
The campaign was to fund the Master Plan approved in 2008, which included the following projects: new arts and sciences building, dining hall, early childhood center, chapel, campus entry and improved circulation, field house, additional athletic improvements, environmental enrichment, quad and clock tower, and renovations to and repurposing of existing spaces.
"When we started the microbiology program, we didn’t have any place to teach. We took a storage room—which was about the size of a big walk-in closet—and put in a lab desk. We had a couple of sinks around the room. When [the] Gries [Center] was going to be built, we drew the plans for a typical clinical microbiology lab and now every student has a sink to use and they have their own microscope and lab notebook; we have designed the setup for every student to work individually.
The funding has just been fantastic; this is a dream come true! I don’t know any other high school that has a class in microbiology for students that is taught at the college level or has everything in it that every student needs in order to work independently and get the lab skills they need to apply for a research job their freshman year in college."
"The Williams Technology Center, including the Laxer Family Technology Lobby, could not be a sharper contrast to Berkeley’s first help desk. The beautifully renovated facility distinguished by floor-to-ceiling windows is bright, welcoming, and spacious.
These new technology-centric facilities support personalized learning by allowing students to pursue individual interests tailored to their education level. Berkeley’s instructional technology facilitates communication and collaboration between teachers, students, and parents. The magic of technology is its power to connect people and amplify ideas. The Williams Technology Center brings people together in support of innovation and imagination."
"Before we had a dedicated art space, I had to carry everything to the classrooms so my resources were limited. Having my own space in which to teach fine arts has truly been a dream come true for me. The room is big with plenty of space to have different centers and activities.
I feel incredibly blessed to have such a beautiful classroom to implement my craft. It has everything I could possibly want in an art room. I have tried to create a safe space where children can come and express their individual creativity, without fear of judgment or criticism. I think we all can agree that the art room in “Wonderland” is a cool place to be!"
"This new room has allowed me to create a more cohesive digital art track for the visual arts offering Graphic Design, 2D and 3D Computer Animation, Digital Photography classes, Mobile Application, and Film Production classes.
In addition, the space allows for a hands-on experience with studio lighting, uses a built-in green screen for chroma keying, records dialogue using a whisper box, and includes a lab workspace. The "round table" area lets students have collaborative discussions and gives them the ability to conduct formal critiques within a comfortable space for proper client/designer engagement.
Finally, as technology evolves each year, this space assists students in keeping up with industry standards."
"When the Straz came along in full operations for the 2012-2013 school year, the impact was immediate and far-reaching. Teams can, and in coordination with other indoor teams, utilize Doyle Gym, any one of the film rooms, the Hunt Family Fitness Center, the Gunn Dance Studio, or even just our hallways!
The Sports Medicine team now has a proper-sized and state-of-the-art space to care for our athletes (and faculty and staff), providing everything from injury prevention to injury rehabilitation.
It is hard to gauge how much of an impact these new facilities and facility upgrades have bolstered our athletic program because it has simply been an absolute game-changer for Berkeley."
